So as promised, I want to introduce you guys to a couple
other SoGo friends.

But first, recap......

Kelly Tenney - my right AND left hand man. Kelly and
I have worked together since season 1 of OTH, and he
has always stood out as the man with all the answers.

When an actor misses their flight and needs a new one
booked at 3am, Kelly is on it.
When the crew is upset about something and
wanting answers, Kelly is on it.
When I passed out the script for Pedestrian to a
few people a couple years ago, Kelly was on it.
When I can't decide whether or not I should go on
a date with a guy, Kelly is on it.
He is the most diligent, caring, patient, honest man,
and I am soooo lucky that he wanted to team up.

Nick Gray - I've written and talked about Nick
quite a bit already. So I sent him a survey
asking him some of his "favorites". This is what
that clever, dashing man said.......

Fav. color - Gray. Of course.
Fav. book - other than Wiseblood,
Jesus's Son, by Denis Johnson.
Fav. pet - None. He has never had a pet. Ever.
Fav. season - Spring
Fav. smell - Subway. The restaurant, that is.
Fav. word - artillery
Fav. cheese - pepper jack

I will let you all draw your own conclusions
about Nick's character.

Mr. Nichols - I call him that because I have
the utmost respect for Mr. Austin Nichols.
To be perfectly honest, I really didn't know
if he and I were going to get along when we first
met. He was too beautiful. And beautiful men frighten me!
But Mr. Nichols is a nerdy, brainy, eccentric man in
disguise. True story: I was giving Mr. Nichols a ride
home one evening, when a party bus full of young
women started hollering at us. One of the rowdy
things mooned us.....although Austin and I debated
as to whether it was a full moon, or and undies-on moon
(which is not really a moon at all.) Not to be outdone,
he instructed me to speed up and pull up next to them,
at which point, he dropped his drawers and delivered
the fullest of moons.

Wiccans could have conducted ceremonies under this moon.
Coyotes howled at it.
Cows jumped over it.

We had a good laugh, and then I dropped him off.
Later that night, he wandered into a bar and
happened upon the very same pack of girls who
had heckled us earlier. Coincidence doesn't exist
for Mr. Nichols. He is a magnet, and the earth is drawn to him,
so of course he met up with this group again. I believe
they bought him shots all night.

Perhaps they were Wiccan.

Okay, now for the newbies! please allow me to
introduce.....
James "Billy" Burton and Eddie Jones!!!!
(insert applause here)

Alright. Billy. Or James. Call him James.
That's his Christian name. His middle name is William
so he's been Billy since he was born. But he is
an adult now. A man who has a mortgage and a grown-up job,
and does adult things like go to Home Depot.
If any of you have ever heard me talk about him before,
I usually refer to him as Billy Awesome.
See, his freshman year in college, he tried to change his
name to James. He had moved to NYC and we were only living
a couple blocks from each other. I went to go meet him
after class and caught some cute girl giving a flirty
little wave and saying "See you later James."

The conversation was something like this:
"Your name is Billy." "My names is James."
"Why are you changing your name now?"
"Cause it's James!"
At which point my boyfriend at the time piped up
that if he was going to change his name, he should
change it to something awesome.

Hence, Billy Awesome.

I have three younger brothers and Billy is the oldest.
We have done everything together. Went to school together.
Moved to NYC together.
Moved to Wilmington and worked on OTH together.
Lived together (although that about killed us!).
We might as well be twins.

James has always been smarter than me.
He's an assistant director on OTH, and he has the
brain for it. He's a problem solver.
When I was in 7th grade, I was a part of this program
that let us take the SATs early. I couldn't figure out
the geometry section of the study guide because, well......
I hadn't taken geometry yet. Enter Billy. 5th grade.
He sits down on my bedroom floor and teaches me the
whole chapter. Kid is a wizard.

He's been a quiet, but very integral part of the build
of Southern Gothic. Every decision I make, from graphics
to investor materials....I run everything
past the kid.

And if we disagree, I can put him in a headlock.

Eddie Jones - the Yankee I call him. Eddie is a transplant.
He came down to Wilmington a few years back from
Connecticut.
He runs a trucking and shipping company.
He talks like a mobster. He is no bullshit.
He is exactly the kind of man I want handling our business
affairs!!! All I need to do is get him fitted
for a pinstripe suit and we are all set!

All kidding aside, Eddie has done more to teach
Kelly and I about raising capital, and educating investors
than anyone. He has been huge on pushing us to do this website.
He's our bully. But a bully who also raises thousands for
non-profit charities, and adores his kids and wife,
and coaches a local lacrosse team.

A couple weeks ago, we were at a lunch with a potential
investor, and Eddie was talking about the charity work he does.
He said, (and imagine this poetry coming out with the
thickest New York accent ever) "Every rock that hits the
water makes ripples. Now you can either be a pebble
or a huge stone. I want to be a huge stone."
And he is. He is the kind of man that makes a big impact....
and a positive one at that.

He loves Southern Gothic because he knows it will be a
big stone in the independent film community. I'm really
happy I have him around to teach us, and help us raise
money, and tease me every chance he gets.

Other team members include my youngest brother Conrad.
He's a great photographer, so we are gonna head out
with him soon and get some cool art for you guys.
I'll give you the lowdown on him when we post his pics.
(And for anyone who wonders about my middle brother John....
He's in China teaching English and wants no part in
show business. He's the only sane one of the bunch).

We're also going to start introducing you guys to musicians,
and other artists we've met along the way.

These are my partners.

They are my friends.

Novo post da Hilarie no Southern Gothic Productions, resumindo aqui ela conta que essa semana visitou uma amiga de colégio, muito amada por ela, Sarah em Charleston, WV.
Ela diz que ela foi uma das poucas amigas que viu a todas as suas peças de teatro, e dizia que eram agradáveis mesmo elas sendo horríveis. Ela diz que a amiga é muito corajosa, deslumbrante e inteligente, ela agradece muitas vezes à amiga pela bondade dela, e por compartilhar esses momentos com ela.
Conta que voltou digirindo no meio de uma nevasca por 8 horas para casa, pois seu voo foi cancelado e que ao chegar em casa havia um rato. Mesmo com todos esses contra tempos, ela diz estar enegizada com esse novo passeio, e que está muito animada com a produtora com o novo filme Pedestrian, com o trabalho e com os amigos da produtora Kelly, Nick e Austin.



"Mmmmmmmm"

So after a strange week, I decided to head to Charleston,
WV to see the love of my life, Sarah, on Thursday.
Sarah has been my best friend since ninth grade.

She was the one who came to see all of my plays,
and told me they were neat even if they were terrible.

She held my hand whenever I had breakups. She was the first
friend I ever had that really defended me.

We were even voted "best friends" at the end of
our senior year. She's this brave, stunning, smart
woman that somehow puts up with me, and I worship her.

Anyway, I posted my last vlog from her house, and
held my breath, not really knowing what reaction I
would get. Being honest can be terribly embarrassing.
But with my best friend at my side, it felt right
and called-for.

She and I went to a farmer's market, and then grabbed
an early dinner. For a few hours any stress I had was
gone as we drank red wine, joked with our waiter, and
poured over the pamphlets we found at the market, with titles like,

"Farm Safety; Our Priority",
"Rabies; Facts You Should Know",
and my favorite "Mayonnaise: The Misunderstood Dressing."

When we got back to her place, we checked the blog.

I have been overwhelmed and sincerely humbled ever since.

All of your kindness has just been staggering!
And to be able to share that with my best friend.....what
a gift!

Thank you, thank you, a million times, thank you.

Words hold so much weight. We can destroy people with
them. We can also rebuild people, encourage, defend,
and love people with them. You all have become a
community that uses their words for kindness, and
I am so honored to be a part of all that.

The rest of the weekend was perfect. We were total
girls, laying around the house watching crime tv,
gossiping about boys we used to kiss, making a
big ol pot of chili for her husband, and planning our
futures.

Sunday I had to get back to Wilmington, and while
hated to leave my rock of a friend, I felt re-energized
and excited to get back to work here at Southern Gothic.
My flight was cancelled. So I rented a car and drove 8
hours back, through the mountains of West-by-God-Virginia,
in a blizzard. When I got home, there was a mouse in my house.

But nothing could ruin my spirits.

I am really excited you guys. I'm excited about
Pedestrian. But even more so, I am excited to work and
be surrounded by friends. Kelly is a dear friend. Nick
is a wonderful friend. Austin is a delightful friend.

I'm gonna sign off for now, but tomorrow I'm going to
introduce you to some more Southern Gothic friends.

É surpreendente pensar que cada intensa influência na minha vida foi uma vez só um rosto na multidão. Um peão aleatória. Um número...


Hi guys!
So this is long overdue, as things have been busy, busy, busy round these parts... but I want to deeply thank all of you who contributed to the "Inspiration" video that was posted on St. Patricks Day! Honestly, you guys know how much I cry at work, so it takes a lot to get me worked up on the homefront....and you did it.
I am so moved by the hope and optimism and loyalty you all have nestled our little company with. It's like walking through a field of fireflies....every little vote of confidence is a spark in the dark that is dazzling.
I am inspired by strangers.
Every person I have ever loved has begun as a stranger.
It's staggering to think that every intense influence on my life was once just a face in the crowd. A random pedestrian. A number.
But this place....this ever growing cyber clubhouse, is something new. Names attached to faces. Kindness. Great distances are being bridged by a similar outlook on life....a bright belief that we are meant to rush out into the sunlight of each day and attack the world...explore, invent, uplift...so that on the day that we die, we will be fat with experience and love.
Kelly and I are blown away. You guys are like an army, and we feel safe and capable in your hands. So again, thank you. Thank you. Thank. YOU.

As a little return gift, we have the infamous note that was found in the tree for you. Now, Nick and I left it in it's original place. There is such a story there. Someone...someone with imagination and heart...took the time to write down beautiful things and place them in a secret nook. But the heartbreaking thing, is that it's still there. Whoever it was intended for never retrieved it. I ask that no one goes looking for it. It isn't ours. But the words that were written are important, so we copied them down to share. I hope you enjoy them as much as we did.
Finding this note is just proof that there is magic in the world.

And as a side note, a member of our local Southern Gothic club is going to be playing a few shows in the Northeast this weekend. This is the man that is going to be scoring our short film. The very sweet Andy Bilinski is going to be upstairs at the Living Room in NYC on the 27th at 9:30 and the 28th at 11:30. And then for those of you in the Philly area, there's a new place called (get this!!!)...the Blinkin Lincoln. How Pedestrian! He'll be there Sunday night. So show a little love if you're in the neighborhood, and go meet some strangers.

SOGOPRO BOOK CLUB
The Pillowman is a 2003 play by Irish playwright Martin McDonagh. An especially dark black comedy, it tells the tale of Katurian, a fiction writer living in a police state who is interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories, and their similarities to a number of bizarre child murders occurring in his town....

I think it's perfect bedtime reading material... YIKES!!!

It's Nick's Birthday!!!!
Nick and I are the same age. But he is 3 months older.

Wiser. Stronger. Faster.

I have more gray hair, but I swear he's gonna go bald first. Or not. He does have an amazing
head of hair.

This year we turn 27.

The 27th year is cursed.

All the greats die at 27. Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain.

Nick will not die. Not on my watch.

I've already hired a militia to watch him around the clock. They are lurking, making sure that no radios fall in his bathtub. They are there to assist him crossing the street. They sit next to him at dinner to ensure that he doesn't choke on the veal cheeks at Caprice Bistro.

They've even replaced all the do-dads in his medicine cabinet with placebos.

Yes, my darling is under close watch, because 27 is going to be his year. This is the year he will get his movie made. The year he will win a radio call in contest. The year he will find a hundred dollar bill on the street.

The year he will save a baby from a burning building and get the key to the city. I see big things for Mr. Gray. And I see things. A lot.



On the anniversary of his great birth, please celebrate with us and tell us what you see for our dear, talented,
dashing Nick.

Hilarie aqui fala que hoje é aniversário do Nick e que eles são da mesma idade, só que ele é 3 meses mais velho. Mais Esperto. Mais forte. Mais rápido
Ela diz que tem mais cabelos brancos mas garante que ele vai ficar careca primeiro, mas que ela não tem certeza disse tbm pois ele tem uma baita cabeleira.
Esse ano eles fazem 27 e essa ano ela diz que é amaldiçoado, pois todos os grandes morreram com 27 Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain.
Ela garante que ele não vai morrer, pois já contrataram uma milicia para tomar conta dele, caso qualquer acontecimento diferente aconteça, como engasgar etc e tal..., que estará sobre vigilancia uma vez que 27 vai ser o seu ano. Este é o ano que ele vai ter o seu filme. O ano que ele vai ganhar uma rádio chamada no concurso. O ano que ele vai encontrar cem dólares na rua.
O ano que ele irá salvar um bebê de um edifício e se queima a chave da cidade. Não vejo grandes coisas para o Sr. Gray. E eu vejo as coisas. Muito.
Sobre o aniversário de seu grande nascimento, por favor comemorem conosco e diga-nos o que você vê para o nosso querido, talentoso, Nick arrojado.

Eu adoro Jeff Buckley. Quem é que não, certo? A forma como a voz dela é elevada sangramentos e danças .... é Romeu e Julieta ... bonita tragédia. A bela história que você já sabe o fim, mas manter a esperança de que um dia você vai voltar a ler e ele vai ser diferente. Eu sempre odiei que eu nunca tinha visto essa voz em uma pessoa. Eu que nunca testemunhei que trás inclinação do headas algo mais do que humanos escapou lábios. Algo completo e invejável. Mas então vi Bibis. Alguns de vocês vão dizer que esta é asacrilege das sortes. Mas eu prometo a você! Eu sou o vocalista em uma banda e cantar .... é difícil. Isso empurra a fazer as palavras significam algo mais do que apenas uma rima bonita ... isso é duro! Mas Bibis Buckley tem facilidade ... onde as notas deslizam como uma porchswing no verão. Ela canta como effortlessly como shebreathes, uma poesia e sinceridade. Gosto de vê-la cantar. Gosto de ver outras pessoas vê-la cantar. Ela vai passar-lhe os meus amigos gostam de água. Então aqui está a entrevista parte da nossa transmissão. Depois de trabalhar na MTV, eu aprendi muito rapidamente como é raro de encontrar um artista que tinha talento e uma presença .... uma facilidade na conversa que os torna acessíveis e inspira uma ligação a partir da audiência. Isso ajuda que eu e ela uma verdadeira pronto bons amigos .... claro! Mas eu já assisti Bibis manobra multidões, e interagir com estranhos como se fossem velhos amigos. Ela é o negócio real, pessoal. Big, busy week ahead!
So, I just left a lunch meeting with my brother,Kelly and Nick. It never really feels like work when our little club gets together. My brother will say something quick witted, Kelly will tease me about boys I hang out with, and Nickand I will share knowing looks about inside jokes we have from previous nights out. And somehow in the middle of all of that, we actually get stuff accomplished. This week.....interviews, my brother's video project,planning LA trips, podcasts(!), web series, t-shirtorders,"Provinces of Night", conference calls,and a partridge in a pear tree. And at some point, I have GOT to touch up this red hair color! This mess fades faster than a 9th graderomance!There's so much going on folks. But there is beauty in the frenzy. And I couldn't be surrounded by better people. Maybe next week we will build a clubhouse. xoxox Hil

Grande e ocupada semana à frente!
Então, eu deixei uma reunião almoço com o meu irmão, Nick Kelly. Ele nunca sente como realmente funciona quando o nosso pequeno clube se encontra. Meu irmão vai dizer algo sagaz, Kelly irá importunar-me de eu sair com os rapazes, e Nickand vou conhecendo parece partes sobre piadas dentro temos de anteriores noites fora. E de alguma maneira no meio de tudo isso, obter coisas realmente realizado. On March 20, “One Tree Hill” actress and now film producer Hilarie Burton walked up to a stranger named Linda, who was speed-walking on the beach, and interviewed her about her tastes in film.


On March 11, Kelly Tenney, a co-producer for the Wilmington-based “One Tree Hill,” talked about his humble first job in show business – a janitor.

And on February 11, Burton and Nick Gray, the writer of an upcoming film, exchanged a sentimental conversation about how they became friends and started working together.

Those events from the past couple of months are all there, caught mostly on video, for the world – we’re talking hundreds of thousands of people in more than 150 countries – to see.

That’s the purpose of Southern Gothic Production’s blog. The film company’s team wanted to give transparency to what they are doing as well as engage their audience, said Burton, who started the company last fall along with Tenney and Gray.

“What’s great about the blog is we’ve created a community of people that are excited for us, so they do a lot of the work for us,” Burton said. “It’s like building an army.”

‘Like fire’
Their blog – http://southerngothicproductions.blogspot.com – is hosted on Blogger, a free blogging service owned by Google, and was an idea the team floated earlier in the year.

“It was something I was really kind of skeptical about,” Burton said. “Really, blog? So, we started this blog and all of a sudden it blew up.”

And by “blew up,” she’s referring to more than 300,000 page views in a little over three months. Some posts on the blog garner dozens of comments from readers, and some even receive hundreds.

“It was like fire, gasoline fire,” Tenney added. “It just exploded.”

What’s the secret to their blogging success?

These three, who were self-described blogging newbies a few months ago, make sure they post frequently and have turned their blog into a “vlog” – think: video plus blog – to show their candid moments and add a more personal touch to the site.

Their blog posts give an inside look at how they are building Southern Gothic Productions, their business model and their mission of staying in Wilmington and using local resources.

Gray said the blog’s fans rely on them to post every day. Burton admits she’s a little more forgetful, so Tenney reminds her when it’s her turn to post on the blog.

“We have to create content every single day,” Burton said, adding that the blogging experience also gives the team some practice for upcoming projects. “What we’ve created in the past three months is a lot of video content, a lot of written content. It’s a diary for our company.”

A reason to interact
When ideas for blog posts get low or if they just want to mix things up, the gang will walk up to strangers on various locations in Wilmington just to get to know another face in town, then show the world, via the blog, their new friend. It reminds Burton of her days as a MTV video DJ.

“We want to talk to the man on the street because that’s who we want to appeal to,” she said. “I want Southern Gothic to be a reason people interact.”

Tenney said the blog is meant to be an interactive social network. Fans can join the site and chat in a feature on the left side of the blog and comment below posts. They can even submit their own content that the Southern Gothic team will sometimes feature.

Gray said he’s entered the site’s chat on occasion and talked to people who had ideas he could write about.

“That makes it all easier for us, because they’re telling us what they want,” he said.

And Gray is giving clues, post by post, about the company’s first feature film that he wrote, a new-age romantic comedy titled “Pedestrian.”

The team has had to work around one challenge: “How do you talk about the film you’re working on without giving away the story and ruining the film experience for your audience?” Burton asked.

So Gray gave a palm reading of Lincoln Booth, a character in the script, and introduced the blog’s audience to the film’s characters by giving their background and other small details.

On Thursday, the team met at the riverwalk in downtown Wilmington to film a video for their blog letting their fans know their blog would be temporarily unavailable on Sunday, while maintenance is done to transfer the blog to a new Web site in the works.

On Friday, after the video was posted, dozens of readers commented and wished the team good luck.

Tracking success
Beyond interaction and sharing the behind the scenes of their business, Tenney said the blog also creates a brand for the production company. Features of the blog also allow the team to measure their audience.

They can tell, for example, that France is second to the U.S. in the blog’s readership numbers.

Tenney said the production company and its investors will be able to use analytical information from the blog to tell which cities would be best for distributing their films, based on the audience and fan base in those locations.

The team plans to launch a new Web site soon that will be a mix of professional information, the blog and a distribution and download center for other independent films in the Wilmington area that haven’t been distributed, Tenney said.

Burton calls their team and their blog a “mom-and-pop shop,” since they do everything from building a worldwide community based on local resources to selling T-shirts to raise money for their production so they can keep their films in Wilmington.

“We want to be as open as possible,” Burton said. “The reason we make movies and the reason we work in the industry we work in is because it’s fun, so why deprive our audience of 90 percent of the fun? They’re only getting that last 10 percent and what we want to give them is the full experience.”
